Black Sheep launches popular Golden Sheep beer
Black Sheep Brewery has launched their new cask blonde beer Golden Sheep, following the success of the limited edition last year.
At 3.9% ABV, Golden Sheep is now available in pubs and restaurants nationwide. Developed by Head Brewer Alan Dunn, the new beer caters for the growing demand for lighter, blonde ales, suitable for year-round consumption. Golden Sheep is a beautifully balanced blonde cask beer with a dry and refreshing bitterness. It’s light golden in colour, with fresh citrusy fruit flavours and a clean, crisp finish.
Alan Dunn says “Achieving the light golden colour was relatively easy, only requiring a re-working of the ‘grist’ using our premium Maris Otter malted barley and crystal malt. Selecting the right amount and variety of hops though was a different matter. After a thorough discussion with our brewing team we settled on the hop variety First Gold but with a slight hop ’twist’ in the hop-back (and I’m not saying which!) to balance the citrus fruit flavours.”
Joint Managing Director at Black Sheep, Rob Theakston said: “We were delighted with the response we had to the limited edition of Golden Sheep last year and due to popular demand we decided to make it a permanent fixture alongside our award winning beers. The recipe has been refined and we hope it will contribute to the continued growth in sales of cask ales which we are experiencing all over the country.”
The Golden Sheep beer was launched at the brewery in Masham to trade from all over the country, including landlords, licensees and restaurateurs. Guests received a Point of Sale Starter pack containing dripmats, runners, glassware, posters and tasting notes. They were also given the opportunity to win a “golden ticket” hidden in the packs, the winner of which received a free firkin of Golden Sheep!
